Jenny Stokes Field

This park is at the corner of Ramsey and Kathleen with access from Kathleen. It is often used by children's soccer teams, as well as other sports that require an open field like ultimate frisbee. The field was named to honor Jennifer Stokes.
Jenny Stokes died on March 26, 1995 as a result of a March 23 car accident at an uncontrolled intersection. Just 18 years old, Stokes was a beloved member of the Coeur d'Alene community as a dedicated student and soccer player. At the time of the accident, the intersection of Lincoln Way and Northwest Boulevard was rated Coeur d'Alene's eighth most dangerous intersection according to the police department.
Stokes graduated from Coeur d'Alene High School in 1994 and was a student at North Idaho College. She was on her way to work after classes at NIC when the accident occurred.
Since the accident, and due to a huge community outcry in the time that followed, that intersection was changed so the entry to the NIC area was a one-way street from Northwest Blvd, and Lincoln Way no longer intersected with Northwest. In May 2012, ground was broken to improve the intersection and add a traffic light, once again allowing drivers to exit the NIC area from that point, but with added safety.
