Okay, for all of you who may be visiting the beautiful Coeur d'Alene area...here's an insider's scoop for you. If you're looking to "eat with the locals", then head up to The Blue Plate Cafe. Located on the corner of Government Way and Dakota Ave. in Hayden, this little cafe has some of the best home style food available in the area. Breakfast is full of the traditional fare: omelettes, pancakes, waffles, and my personal favorite, biscuits and gravy.

I guess I'm not much of an adventurous eater. I find something I like at a restaurant and then I always seem to order the same thing! When I have breakfast at The Blue Plate Cafe, it's always a full order of biscuits and gravy. *Tip: If you like sausage, order the patty...it's a much larger helping than the links. It's also tastier in my opinion. However, I can say that their pancakes are pretty tasty as well (I sampled them off of my youngest son's plate on my last visit there).

The Blue Plate also bakes all of their own bread on site too. So, if you order a burger at lunch, it will be served on a fresh baked bun.

The prices are extremely competitive and fair. The service is excellent as is the atmosphere.

The Blue Plate Cafe is truly a local haunt. Be prepared to wait a few minutes for a table though, especially in the summer time. The cafe is not large, so you'll have to be patient for a few minutes. It's worth the wait...

Blue Plate Cafe

I've heard a lot of great things about the Blue Plate Cafe. Pancakes and sausage sound so good to me right now. (Hey, it is technically morning--1:23am--and thus time for breakfast!)
